ABOUT UNION AUTHORIZATION CARDS

A union authorization card is the union's key to getting control over you, your pay, and your workplace.

All too often, however, employees are tricked and manipulated into signing union authorization cards without knowing that the cards are legal documents that turn over their right to deal with their employer directly to a union.

Below are examples of union authorization cards from a variety of different unions.  While the wording may differ slightly from card to card, all of these cards have the same purpose and that is to unionize you.
Click on the links below to learn about:

• How to get a signed union authorization card(s) back
• What a union authorization card should really say
• Union Organizing Tactics
• False Union Promises
• Why the Government Allows False Union Promises
In fact, under the law, if 50% + 1 (a simple majority) of your co-workers sign a union's authorization cards, you can be unionized without employees ever voting in a secret-ballot election.

So, before you or your co-workers sign anything from a union, be sure you know all of the ramifications of what a union can do with your signature.

  • This union authorization cards states that the individual signer wants the union;
  • Presumably, the signer would know that the card designates the union as the "exclusive bargaining agent" over ALL terms and conditions of employment
  • HOWEVER, the card does NOT state that the union could attempt to deny the individual with the right to vote
  • The card does NOT tell the signer that (s)he could be bound by the union's constitution

  • Although most signers of this card would probably not realize it, this card gives the union ALL authority to represent the signer on ALL aspects related to his or her employment.  This would include the ability to:
    • Refuse to file grievances, or to make settlement that the individual may not approve of ;
    • Negotiate contracts that the individual might not approve of and more...

  • This union authorization card not only allows the union to represent the individual on all aspects of his/her current job but all FUTURE jobs as well
  • The card also is "nonexpiring" and "binding" on the individual signer, as well as irrevocable except by written resignation

  • The individual signer of this card not only authorizes the union to become his/her sole and exclusive bargaining representative, the individual is also applying for membership in the union.
  • Further the individual is agreeing to be bound by the union's constitution, and pledging to adhere to all other directives from the union, including the willingness to pay all monies owed to the union

  • Like the cards above and below this one, this card gives the union the exclusive right to represent the individual for the purposes of "collective bargaining"
  • In other words, the union gets control of the signer (and presumably additional signers as well) wages, hours and working conditions for the purpose of bargaining
