SEIU: THE PURPLE PEOPLE EATERS
RAIDERS OR SWEETHEARTS?

Although the two unions "buried the hatchet" in Spring 2009, during its ongoing feud with the California Nurses Association, in the Summer 2008, the SEIU sent six busloads of militant demonstrators (some allegedly wearing bandanas to hide their identity) to disrupt a conference of union activists from different unions.  What transpired was a violent confrontation that resulted in one SEIU member dead from a heart attack and a least one injury requiring medical attention.  Read more here...

SEIU-represented RNs, including former organizers and reps, complain about the SEIU and its representation.

“We want to take our union back,” said Melanie Sisson, RN. “[SEIU President] Andy Stern’s agenda does not address any of the nurses’ issues. All he wants to do is grow his members and not provide the services we need to help nurses’ professional practice. SEIU is interested in running a top-down organization where they’re like the boss.”  [Source: Nursing Link, May 8, 2008]

PUERTO RICAN TEACHERS ACCUSE SEIU OF RAIDING

protested at the SEIU's 2008 convention in Puerto Rico.
