NOW THAT'S SOLIDARITY!
UFCW SETTLES 11-MONTH STRIKE BY
 REPRESENTING REPLACEMENT WORKERS!

In February 2003, 470 UFCW-represented workers at Tyson Foods' Jefferson, Wisconsin plant went out on strike.  Through the cold days of winter, the hot days of summer, and the cold days of winter again, the UFCW struck.

During the 11-month ordeal, their employer hired permanent replacement workers.

After 11 months, when the UFCW felt it could get decertified by the replacement workers, the union urged striking workers to accept the company's offer stating that it was the only was to keep the union in the plant.

As many of the original striking UFCW workers were replaced, the union was able to stay at the company, charging union dues to replacement workers.
