WHERE THE STEELWORKERS' UNION SPENDS ITS MEMBERS' MONEY

At the end of 2007, according to its financial reports on file with the US Department of Labor, the United Steelworkers was more than $188 million in the hole.  What's even more astounding is the fact that, during the year, the union actually added $69 million to its debt—going from more than $119 million in the hole to $188 million.
Since, according to its government reports, the USW charges its members 1.3% of their pay for dues every month*, one wonders how the union could go $69 million further into the hole.

Well, considering that took in nearly $440 million in 2007 but spent nearly $455 million (see table below), that may only be part of the story.

AFTER REVIEWING THE INFORMATION BELOW, CLICK HERE TO LEARN ABOUT THE STEELWORKERS' HIGH-RISE HEADQUARTERS, ITS 'HISTORICAL' GOLF COURSE-TRAINING CENTER, AS WELL AS OTHER MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS OF INTEREST.

* Note: According to the USW's dues structure, if you make $10 per hour, you would pay $0.13 to the union for every hour you worked; at $15 an hour, your union dues would be $0.20 per hour.
